It Has Begun

30 days!

That's how far off we are from the national election here in Cambodia.

And that's when campaigning can officially begin here.

And it has in earnest.

This morning there are posters posted on almost any available wall in my neighborhood.

Loudspeakers are blaring throughout the neighborhood.

Traffic on Norodom blocked by demonstrators lining both sides of the street.

Lunchtime saw intersections block by convoys of trucks loaded with supporters.

Don't try to get anywhere quickly.

Much todo for an election that should be a cakewalk for HS and the CPP. But maybe that will only add to the potential for unrest.

I haven't really given it much thought because the CPP seems so firmly entrenched. However, the V GF is already asking if we can get out of town for the election. Seems the bamboo grapevine over at Phsar Kandal is getting worked up over it.

Stay tuned...

By the way, who am I to complain? I am, after all, an American with the charade of an election process that has been on for over a year and still has more than 4 months to go!
