December (2008) in Cambodia

I started this post in December 2008*

Cambodian Christmas:

A heretic buys a $26 4 ft plastic Christmas tree (made in the PRC) complete with lights and decorations from a Khmer and gets carnal with a VC under the glow of the blinking blue lights. Lube made in the USA. Background music from a stereo made in Japan. Anarchists are shitheads. Globalization works. But some people just seek out reasons to get pissed off.

The Thais:
We've all been enjoying the angry shit in Thailand. Assholes to the left - assholes to the right - tourist season 2008-2009...Fucked. Tourism bad even in Pattaya. Bars are responding to the downturn by raising their drink prices to Bangkok levels. Nicely played. The sad trade they are getting is responding. They buy cheap cans of beer on the street, sit outside the bars and listen to the music blaring out the doors...Just like Phnom Penh Africans.

Sharky Bar:
Yes - the prices rose (again.) $2.50 for a vodka. $5.50 for a pitcher of Angkor. (Wasn't it just $4?) Hostess bar prices at the Shark? Hmm....no longer a cheap night out, but the times are still good, and the people are still the right kind of weird.

Happy Birthday:
Saigon's best - The Curtis King Band in town for the 13th (or 14th?) Anniversary Party. Kick ass band but they can be hit and miss....kind of a miss this time around but - still - a great night and they were very cool to follow-up with a freebie Saturday night.

A big fuck you - to the security guards at the Candy Bar for braining one of the guys with a baton. A misunderstanding? Something about a bill (that had actually been paid.) Another reason to avoid the crapfest on St. 136.

Update:

Thais still being dicks. Sharky still not a super cheap night out. Street 136 still a crapfest.

Cambodia still attracting the right kind of weird.

(*I've been busy...)
