Sweeps Week:
Those of you visiting Cyrcee, Sophies, or other such venues will find they've gone BYOB.
Bring Your Own Bed.
Word: The Power That Is has sent down a 6 page smackdown aimed at clearing up business ahead of an NGO-initiated sweep. No one needs to close shop - but the beds need to go. Will this include the Q-Bar? I FUCKING HOPE SO. I also hope I haven't seen the last of my favorite sofa. Will all this redecorating extend to places catering to Asians? Doubt it. Western embassies foot the bills for this crap. There just isn't any money in busting Asians since their NGOs and embassies know better than to mess with the after-office / pre-wife shag scene. But their cultures are ancient and wise. They have better shit to do with their taxpayers money - like buying off land management officials.
Stay tuned to see how the shakedown shapes up.
Local Sports:
Shooting the shit and digging the Rugby World Cup. Australia slaughters Japan 91-3. Not the only slaughter on people's minds this weekend. Folks at the Gym Bar got to see locals put on their own sporting exhibition:
A mid-day, middle of a crowded street, full-on, very public HIT.
12-15 shots = free ventilation for a dude in a Mercedes with RCAF plates - somehow he made it out of the car and ran into a nearby pagoda looking for sanctuary. He didn't get it.
Something in the air?:
Later that night a recent arrival chilling on his balcony near the French Cultural Center got to see an old school traffic stop. Yeah - a mess of cops with AKs on full auto is a pretty effective tool when you're looking to get errant drivers off the road...and into an urn. Whatever,...they had their reasons.
Crime?:
Not sure if crime is really on the rise or it's just the usual shit. I got to see the aftermath of a shoot and grab moto theft and the ensuing (and massive) police response on St. 63 tonight. Serious looking and heavily armed - they were stopping EVERYONE. And it was nice to see: "New Camry with no plates? Sorry junior, tonight you pull it on over and shut the fuck up while we check you out."
Maybe things are getting better.
